When should I start training my puppy?

Q: I have a young Siberian Husky that’s 3 months old, when should I begin real training?
– Marianne C.

Answer: Congratulations on your new addition. The puppy months are a great time to really bond with your little buddy. It is never too late or too soon to start training your pup.  It is important to remember that the younger they are, their attention will not be as long as older pups.  Keep your training sessions short and incorporate training in to your daily routines.   Always end your sessions with success and most importantly have fun!
Start with having your dog on leash and getting them comfortable walking with a leash and collar.  It is important for your pup to follow and not take the lead on your walks.  Ask at your local Pet Valu or Paulmac’s Pets for recommendations on training classes and where other people took their dogs.  Then do your research. There are many different training methods out there, find out what works best for you and your pup. Happy training!
